A new News.com.au piece by Emma Reynolds cites my article “Muslims Aren’t A Race, So I Can’t Be Racist, Right? Wrong“. Reynolds wrote the following:
Sociologist Craig Considine points out in the Huffington Post that White and Black, Asian and Indigenous Americans are not races either.
He says race is not a biological reality but a social construct — a “fluid concept which has specific connotations during certain moments in history.”
Racism is about the oppression of a particular group based on stereotypes.
Considine references Bobby Sayyid from the University of South Australia, who says Islamophobia, or the desire to “domesticate unruly Muslims”, is “cultural racism”.
Indeed, Islamophobia is racism.
Muslims are NOT a race just as you say. Islam is a Religion! If Muslims are a race then that must also mean that Wiccans, Christians, and anyone else of any other religion are also a race which is not the case.

By this definition, someone who hates circus clowns for being creepy is a racist. We might want to be a little more precise in how we define “racism.”
